Bio: Mariana Regalado is the head of Reference and Instruction at the Brooklyn College Library, where she assists students to become smart, curious, and confident information seekers. Her interest in how students experience the research process, travel through their days, use technology, and describe their satisfactions and frustrations in turn informs her practice as a librarian. Her academic background in anthropology and library science are brought together in her research: a multi-year, multi-campus study of the daily experience of undergraduates as students at CUNY, together with Maura Smale of New York City College of Technology. Their research on how CUNY students use technology in their academic work was published in 2017 as Digital Technology as Affordance and Barrier in Higher Education. This year, in Academic Libraries for Commuter Students: Research-based Strategies, they bring together librarians’ and researchers’ studies on commuter students’ library use at colleges and universities around the U.S.
