Short Bio: Originally from Utica, NY, Jacob Sachs-Mishalanie is a Brooklyn based composer, songwriter, and teacher. In his recent music and research, his central focus is on the expressive and sonic relationships between acoustic instruments and electronic sounds. A few recent projects include music and sound design for the play Black Garden, premiered at the Théâtre de l'Opprimé in Paris, and two electroacoustic string quartets premiered by the Mivos Quartet. Jacob is a PhD candidate in music composition at the CUNY Graduate Center. As a Mellon Humanities Alliance Teaching Fellow, he teaches Critical Thinking at LaGuardia CC, where his classes focus on analyzing media & technology. He also teaches music technology, theory, & history at Brooklyn College.
