Ariel Mallett holds a BA in Anthropology and Arabic, Armenian, Persian, Turkish and Islamic studies from U-M and is currently pursuing her MA in Higher Education with a focus on student access and success. She joins the Office of Community-Engaged Academic Learning from the U-M International Institute where she previously coordinated a $3,000,000 Mellon Foundation initiative called the Digital Islamic Studies Curriculum. Ariel has worked, studied, and volunteered in 14 countries across 6 continents in the last 10 years and is proficient in Spanish, Arabic and English. Additionally, she has professional experience as a translator, a chef, a photographer, and a bicycle mechanic, among other things. Her diverse background has shaped Ariel's conviction and dedication to encouraging students of all backgrounds to engage in high-impact learning experiences as the cornerstone of their higher education experience. As both a first-generation college student from a low-income background and a transfer student to U-M, Ariel is personally committed to helping a diverse range of students succeed at the University of Michigan by way of the Transfer Bridges initiative.
